Robert
J. Watson - Telegraphist
Robert J. Watson was born on July 23, 1922 of a seventh generation Ontario
family. He was educated in Toronto, completing his junior matriculation
from Parkdale Collegiate in June, 1939. Bob worked as an office clerk
in Toronto before enlisting in the navy in October, 1942, at Toronto.
He was then drafted to Victoria B.C., Prince Rupert, B.C. and St. Hyacinthe,
Quebec. He joined the Nene and was discharged in October, 1945. Bob thoroughly
enjoyed his position as a technical sales representative in the commercial
and industrial air conditioning, heating and air handling industry in
Toronto, until his retirement in 1988. Bob married Joyce Tozer of Toronto,
in Prince Rupert, B.C. in September, 1943, in a naval wedding conducted
by Reverend Ian Edwards (later Deputy Chaplain of the Fleet, Protestant).
Blessed with daughters Sharon (Mrs. Chris Andrew), Donna (Mrs. Gary Haughton),
Judith (Mrs. David Love), three granddaughters (Leah, Jennifer, Kimberley),
and three grandsons (Robbie, Jeffrey, Jamie). Bob's principal hobbies
include playing senior "A" softball in Toronto Defense League,
Dentonia Park and Dieppe Park, curling at Avondale Curling Club, Toronto,
bowling, as well as spending summers for 40 years at their cottage in
Haliburton, Ontario. Robert passed away June 25, 1992.
