George Newton - Able Seaman
George Newton was born in Windsor, Ontario May 12, 1924. He joined the navy May 27, 1943 at H.M.C.S. Hunter, in Windsor, Ontario. George was drafted to H.M.C.S. Nene (K270) in June, 1944 and served in Nene until June, 1945. He married Eva (nee Prymack) June, 1946. George worked for Chrysler Canada. George and Eva have one son, Kirk, and one daughter, Debbie (Lucier); four grandchildren, Kelly, Paul, Christian and Melissa. George was a founding member of the Essex-Kent Naval Veterans Association in Windsor, which later was chartered into the R.C.N. Veterans Association. He was active in the club until his untimely death on April 17, 1980. Wife Eva was president for several years of the R.C.N.A. (Windsor) Ladies Auxiliary until her passing on Oct. 9, 1991.
