Hebert Sharp - Stoker 1st Class
Hebert Sharp was born in 1914 and educated in Toronto. Herb joined the RCNVR "as soon as the ship came to port" in August 1943. He served as a Stoker 1st class and earned a badge of good conduct in the process. After leaving the service in 1945, Herb resumed his career as a locomotive fireman, leaving soon after, for a 35 year career with the City of Toronto. In 1952 Herb married Winnifred Buchanan. Herb and Winnie are proud parents of three children. The youngest, Craig, is remembered with great love. The oldest, Carol, has added two rambunctious girls to the Sharp family. First son, Bruce, has brought pride to the family through academic and sports achievements. Retiring in 1979, Herb began his most exciting responsibilities as Zone and Branch sports officer. Herb "Sports" Sharp lead his Legion Branch #210 and others to provincial victories. Four years in a row golf, bowling, horseshoes and shuffleboard titles were taken by Herb's teams. While no longer a sports officer, Herb maintains strong ties with Branches #210 and #101 and participates in Legion activities.

Although many men suffered from sea sickness, his mates remember Herb spending time at the rail despite the cold conditions, while combating nausea.
