Norman Cummings - Stoker 1st Class
Norman Cummings was born on March 29, 1923 at Niagara Falls, Ontario. He attended public schools there and the Niagara Falls High School. He was called for service with the Army Militia unit at seventeen years of age, the unit being disbanded after a year. Norman worked as a metal worker at Fleet Aircraft Company until he joined the navy at HMCS Hamilton, as a Stoker 1, in November, 1942. He was discharged from the service as an ERA 4 November, 1945. Norman married Eileen Dobbin November 7, 1942. They have a son Patrick and daughter Diane. Norman and a partner did industrial metal work (dust and fume collector systems) for 28 years. He formed the Cummings Heating Service with his wife eighteen years ago, providing gas service, heating and cooling. Norman retired in 1990 due to health problems. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #51. His hobbies included a little golf and he belonged to the St. Kitts Flying Club. He and Eileen had a 26 foot cabin cruiser which they enjoyed. Although Norman's activities are now somewhat limited, he and Eileen enjoy their retirement and hearing about the Nene crew.
