Julius (Caesar) Mahalek - Able Seaman

Julius (Caesar) M. Mahalek was born on February 25, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended school in Winnipeg and Birds Hill. While on the Nene he asked for marriage leave and on November 4, 1944 he married Irene McMahan from Teulon, Manitoba. Caesar served aboard HMCS Winnipeg, HMCS Nene and also HMCS Eastview. After the war he became an apprentice in the printing trade and worked in Winnipeg until he moved to Vancouver Island in 1963. While in Winnipeg he enlisted in the reserves at HMCS Chippawa and became a Petty Officer, and served on HMCS Skeena to the far east in 1958. In 1984 he retired from the Comox Press in Courtney, B.C. Irene and Caesar have two sons, Wayne and Randy, who are married and live in Campbell River, B.C. There are two granddaughters and two grandsons. Caesar and Irene are enjoying their retirement in Campbell River.
