Vern Taylor - Stoker 1st Class
Vern Taylor was born in 1924 in southwest Saskatchewan, near the town of Kerrobert, the son of a grain elevator operator. He was the youngest of seven children. Vern joined the navy at age 17, and served in the North Atlantic, on several ships. His last posting was on HMCS Nene. In 1948 he married Alice Bourke, another child of a grain elevator operator from a neighbouring town. Vern was self employed most of his working life, operating service stations for different oil companies. His avocation was politics at federal, provincial and municipal levels. A man of faith, he went to be with the Lord on October 20, 1991, after suffering a heart attack near his home in Burnaby, B.C. Left with fond memories of him are daughter Debbie and family (Burnaby, B.C.), son Dean and family ( South Orange County, California), wife Alice (Burnaby, B.C.) and four grandchildren.
