Earl F. Piper was born March 30, 1925 in Nanaimo, British Columbia into an old pioneer family. Earl went from High School into the navy in 1943. He took his basic training at HMCS Queen, Regina, thence to HMCS Cornwallis and then joined HMCS Nene. After discharge in 1945 Earl returned to Nanaimo, where he went into the family business. In 1947 Earl married Muriel Roberts, whom he had known since childhood. Their fathers were overseas together in the First World War, and their families grew up together. In 1948 Muriel and Earl moved to Vancouver. They have one son, Brock and he and his wife Lynn, live in Toronto. Earl retired in February 1982, after many years in the grocery retail business and with the B.C. provincial government. Muriel and Earl have spent much of their retirement travelling, enjoying their garden and devoting many hours to senior citizens welfare, such as shopping outings, home entertaining, doctors vists etc.
