Here's a TIP!
Do you want to know if your anti-virus software is working? Just write a small text file with Notepad or the DOS Editor and save it as EICAR.COM.
The contents of this file should be typed as follows, without spaces.
X50!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7]EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
The third character is a capital letter O, not the numeral zero.
Now,check this file with your virus checker. Don't worry, it is not a virus. Software vendors use this file as a standard alert to find out if their anti-virus software is funtioning properly.
I tried it with F-Prot, and it worked. But, on a Windows 95 machine, running Norton Anti-virus, it didn't.
